The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will play a key role in advancing cutting-edge technology. In this senior position, you will drive the design and development of both current and upcoming projects. Collaborating with a team of industry experts, you will oversee mechanical systems from initial concept to production, ensuring excellence at every stage.
Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate within a multidisciplinary design and development team to create concepts and deliver designs that meet project requirements for functionality, quality, timelines, and cost.

Work on diverse projects, ranging from large-scale fabricated structures and systems to bespoke prototypes for smaller vessels.

Take a leadership role in major programs or independently manage smaller projects, working closely with the technical lead.

Ensure the delivery of component and system designs in alignment with company standards and processes.

Drive continuous improvement of methodologies and toolsets to enhance innovation and efficiency.

Contribute to early-stage planning, feasibility assessments, and requirements generation for pre-contract and concept development phases.

Mentor and develop junior team members, fostering growth and expertise.

Perform mechanical calculations for fixings, inserts, and bonded joints.

Act as a technical liaison with customers, suppliers, manufacturing teams, and internal stakeholders.

Support business development efforts, including the preparation of customer proposals.

Assist with project management tasks, monitoring plans, progress, and risk mitigation.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously, clearly communicating progress, priorities, and challenges.

Participate in physical builds, evaluations, and validations.

Contribute to the development of Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA).

Oversee external resources in collaboration with the line manager.
Qualifications and Experience:

A degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Marine, or Aerospace Engineering.

Proficiency in using major CAD systems (preferably NX or CATIA) to create high-quality, detailed drawings with appropriate application of GD&T and DFM principles.

Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, supported by the ability to perform design calculations.

Experience designing both metallic and composite components is highly desirable.

In-depth knowledge of materials, welding, bonding, and fastening techniques.

Hands-on familiarity with workshop activities such as fabrication and CNC machining is a plus.

Significant experience in conducting classical hand calculations and creating custom calculation sheets.

Competence with FEA tools to support design validation and accelerate development is advantageous.

Familiarity with TeamCentre and Siemens SimCentre is beneficial.

Knowledge of production manufacturing techniques is preferred.

Ability to mentor and supervise junior engineers, with a willingness to delegate tasks effectively.

Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to give and receive instructions as needed.

Project management experience is a plus.
