Adept:us is recruiting a Senior Reliability & Safety Engineer for a Bristol-based aerospace client. Following the award of several major projects, our client is looking to engage an experienced contractor to support safety and reliability activities at their Brough engineering facility.

The role focuses on motor reliability analysis and flight system safety assessment, applying industry safety standards to analyse hardware failures and their impact on system-level safety.

    Key Activities & Responsibilities

    • Perform quantitative safety assessments of a high-performance motor assembly and associated flight systems.
    • Apply ARP4761A safety processes to conduct Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA) and Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSA).
    • Develop Fault Tree Analyses (FTA) to determine probabilities of power-loss events (Minor, Partial, and Total Loss of Power).
    • Maintain and update Flight Systems safety analyses in response to design changes.
    • Review engineering changes and produce formal safety statements.
    • Conduct Preliminary Hazard Analyses (PHA) and generate sub-system hazard analysis updates.
    • Review and update FMECA to ensure correct mapping of failure modes to severity levels (MPL, PPL, LOP).
    • Define and justify component failure rates using industry databases (e.g., Telcordia, MIL-HDBK-217, SN 29500) or field data.
    • Translate complex Bills of Materials (BOM) into structured reliability and safety models.
    • Support in-service queries, incidents and emergent safety issues.
    • Produce risk assessments and safety documentation.
    • Work closely with the Air Sector Safety community to support platform-level safety cases and arguments.
    • Generate formal Safety & Reliability Reports for internal review and certification activities.

    Project Deliverables

    • System Fault Tree Analysis: Quantified models covering Minor, Partial and Total Loss of Power scenarios.
    • Updated FMECA: Including Severity, Occurrence and Detection rankings.
    • Safety Statements & Hazard Analysis Updates in response to design changes.
    • Reliability Summary Report: Defining calculated failure rates per operating hour and supporting safety arguments.

    Essential Skills & Experience

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Product Safety / Reliability Engineer within the aerospace sector.
    • Engineering Degree, HND or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
    • Strong knowledge of system safety engineering practices, including:
      • Hazard Analysis
      • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
      • Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
      • Safety justifications and risk assessments
    • Experience working within the systems engineering V-lifecycle.
    • Experience using Reliability Workbench or equivalent safety modelling tools (e.g., CAFTA, Ansys medini analyze).
    • Ability to analyse complex engineering data and translate it into structured safety and reliability models.
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and engineering datasets/tools.
